We have been busy behind the scenes with a few different projects over the last few months which we thought you might like to read about. Girish and the team at Mila have also been working on some new samples and pieces which will be arriving with us soon. Below we share a little bit more about what’s to come.
BACK TO THE LAND COLLECTION
We’re excited to announce that, as we mark 10 years of Pico this October, we will be launching our “Back to the Land” collection. Our ultimate goal is to produce ‘fully compostable underwear with local and regenerative supply chains’. As part of this, in the coming months, we shall be producing small batches of our classic styles using biodegradable alternatives to standard elastane, thread and elastic waistbands.
We will also be introducing small batches of 100 % cotton garments, including a very special limited desi cotton range, which formed part of our two year project with the British Council and University of Arts London.
NEW LANDSCAPES COLLABORATION
Last September, we had a fantastic time when we attended the British Council's New Landscapes exhibition featuring our work at their headquarters in Stratford, East London.
This marked the culmination of the two year project they had funded, and we spent the week with a group of people from six other sustainable textile projects working between India and the UK.
It was a wonderful opportunity for us to spend a few days with Girish and Indira, from Mila, who we have been working with for the last 10 years. We also had the opportunity to meet all the team members of the other New Landscapes projects.
This included Namrata and Arun of Truetone Ink (pictured centre with their UK partners from Post Carbon Lab).
True Tone Ink have developed unique methods for working with natural pigments to dye fabric.
Last week, Girish delivered some freshly made pieces to their workshop in Mysore. Arun is now in the process of turning these pieces from ecru to shades of teal and coffee brown. We hope to have them back next month to share with you.

PICO PART OF BRITISH COUNCIL EXHIBITION IN SOUTH KOREA
We’re excited to share that the New Landscapes Exhibition has now travelled to South Korea, where it was opened last Wednesday by Princess Anne. It was great to hear that she was really interested in our work and, in particular, why it is so important to remove synthetic fibres from underwear.DONATING UNDERWEAR TO SMALLS FOR ALL
Earlier this month, we donated 30 crop tops to the charity Smalls for All, who collect and provide underwear for those in need in the UK and Africa. This is something we would like to continue and will share more about soon.PICO HAS AN ADVISORY BOARD
As we celebrate Pico’s 10th anniversary, we are delighted to have recently inaugurated a Pico Advisory Board to help us plan for the future. We are so excited about the new possibilities that are emerging for creating completely biodegradable underwear and very grateful to have this extra support to help us achieve our ambition.
